With 361 victories, Kid Nichols ranks 7th on the all-time wins list. The six ahead of him are true legends. Only Cy Young (511), Walter Johnson (417), Pete Alexander (373), Christy Mathewson (373), Pud Galvin (365) and Warren Spahn (363) stand in front of Nichols.
Nichols pitched for the Boston Beaneaters for his first 12 seasons, helping them to five league championships. From 1891-1898 Nichols posted seven 30-win seasons. For decades 20 wins in a year meant success. Nichols averaged 24 per year in his 15-year career.
The right-handed throwing Nichols amassed 532 complete games in 562 career starts. He threw 300 or more innings in all but three seasons and pitched more than 400 innings five times.
The Hall of Famer finished in the top 10 in wins ten times and in the top three six times. From 1896-1898 posted 92 wins, pacing the Senior Circuit each season.
In his retirement he Nichols became one of the best bowlers in Kansas City.
