The baseball world was just getting to know Andrew McCutchen in 2011. He entered the season as a 24-year old with two big league seasons under his belt. McCutchen soon found his stride.
Voted into his first All Star game in 2011, McCutchen started a string of five straight appearances in the Midsummer Classic. During that run he hit .302 with a .396 on-base percentage and a 31.2 WAR. The Pittsburgh center fielder also racked up an impressive array of awards: 2012 Defensive Player of the Year, 2013 NL MVP, a Gold Glove, and four Silver Sluggers.
McCutchen fared well in MVP voting, finishing in the top 5 four times. In 2012 he finished third behind Buster Posey and Ryan Braun. The following season he became the first Pittsburgh player since Barry Bonds to earn the award. Then in 2014 McCutchen finished third again, this time behind Clayton Kershaw and Giancarlo Stanton. His 5th place showing in 2015 was his last time receiving votes.
